Other Characters?: Sidurgu; while Haurchefant and Sidurgu come from the same canon, and even the same city state, they've never canonically interacted. Haurchefant may know vaguely about dark knights, but they are treated much akin to the boogeyman for nobles. Sidurgu will likely avoid Haurchefant, because he hardly wants to be around Ishgardians, but he'd be keeping an eye on him for any trouble he may cause—which will be none, considering it's Haurchefant. So they'll likely just be keeping a large berth of each other. (Even if Haurchefant would like to see this mysterious Auri man, Sidurgu will have none of it.)

Character
Character Name: Haurchefant Greystone
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Canon Point: Post the Vault/A Knight's Calling
Age: 28!

History/Key Points: Haurchefant comes from Ishgard, which is a holy city based around Halonic religion which worships a Goddess Warrior named Halone. It's very Catholic like in presentation, architecture, and terminology, though their values are a bit different. However, because this religion is deeply rooted in a war that's been going on for a thousand years with dragons, and thus it's been greatly used to propagate the war efforts against the Dravanians. All of this has helped sculpt Haurchefant into who he is.

Ishgard is a very classist society, where those not of noble birth are regarded rather poorly, in fact their lives hardly matter at all. This rings especially so towards those born out of wedlock, particularly between classes. It seems to be a pretty common thing for male nobles to get the frick on with their maids or servants, or even just low born women in general, and thus bastards are born a plenty. Haurchefant being one such. Which only gave his life conflict and strife, even as a child, and furthermore as an adult. Being referred to as "The noble bastard" and suchlike.

Up until his mother's untimely death due to her illness and frailty, he lived with her. However his father, Lord Edmont of House Fortemps (one of the four ruling houses of Ishgard) would not forsake him once she had passed, and thus took him in. This caused a great deal of strife in his household, seeing as Haurchefant was born from infidelity of his marriage, it was a stressful situation for them all. Causing the Countess to resent Haurchefant verily, and it bred contempt from his older half-brother Artoirel. Regardless, Edmont would not forsake his child, and thus he would raise him as a knight for his house.

Despite the conflicts in his household, Haurchefant grew up to be an calm, kind, and virtuous man with a good heart. Though, this development was not without the help of his friend Francel, a boy who was 6 years younger than him, and of noble birth. He met the young noble, the 4th son of House Haillenarte (another high house), when he was 12 at one of his family's dinner parties (he was of course not allowed to be present for it, due to his Step-Mother's shame for him); they became fast friends. Francel's kindness did wonders to sooth Haurchefant through his stressful youth, and Francel's efforts were rewarded with an ever loyal friend.

When Haurchefant was 17 years old, Francel had been out falconing with his father, where he got separated and kidnapped by bandits to be held for ransom. Haurchefant had saw the kidnapping, having been none too far from the boy and his father during it all. He had followed them to their hideout, busted in, killed two of his captors with only a hunting knife. With the third bandit discovering the scene, he fired an arrow for Francel, which Haurchefant blocked with his arm, and then took down the third bandit despite the wound, thus incapacitating him. For the rescue of the young lord, Haurchefant earned his title of the Silver Fuller, and was deemed a knight.

From there, he continued training till he eventually assumed control of Camp Dragonhead (after the calamity happened, which was a consequence of the second moon falling, and an elder primal breaking free and ravaging the land with its tantrum. Thus plunging Coerthas into an eternal winter, and affecting other parts of Eorzea similarly.), becoming the Garrison Commander. There he would eventually meet the Warrior of Light, and form a strong bond with him/her. One that would start from their joint effort in disproving Francel's charges claiming him of being a heretic. A dravanian double agent posed as an inquisitor and was slowly framing nobles for being heretics and using Ishgard's own cruel system of justice to kill them off, which the Warrior of Light and Haurchefant both were able to put an end to. Later, the Warrior of light would return to help in stopping the leader of the heretics (Elezen who support the dragon side of the war) Lady Iceheart, who proved herself able to become a primal (a god like being of immense power).

Eventually, shit goes down south in Ul'dah for the Warrior of Light, and they flee to Haurchefant for help. Who, with strange enthusiasm, offers them succor at his camp, promising them eventual entry to Ishgard. Once that was granted, it lead to the eventual dismantling of the deceit that the Halonic Church had been feeding their people for a thousand years. Haurchefant lent his aid in storming the church in hopes to stop the Archbishop, and to save Aymeric, who is the Lord Commander of the Temple Knights. He had gone on his own to confront the Archbishop, but was thusly branded a heretic and taken into custody for questioning.

Before the capture of the Archbishop, and the Warrior of Light could stop their nefarious, though well intended plan, Haurchefant had sacrificed himself for the Warrior of Light. Taking a direct hit for them from a spear of light, and dying so that they may continue to be the hope that Ishgard—and Eorzea both—needed. Even though that attack wouldn't have even hurt the Warrior of Light all that much, but WHATEVER SE IM NOT SALTY ABOUT THIS OR ANYTHING.

Personality:
Life is not a race, my friend—rush blindly forward without concern for your health, and you will one day pay the price.

Hailing from a land that has become as cold as its people, Haurchefant has always been a bit of a black sheep with his warm personality. The Holy See of Ishgard has quite the repute for being cold and distant towards outsiders, primarily because of it's efforts with its 1000 year religious war with dragons, but despite that, Haurchefant finds the practice ill-becoming. This is but one of many ways he differs with the general populace of Ishgard. He's known for being open to outsiders, and downright friendly to boot. He judges not a man by where he's from, or the circumstance of his birth, but by the actions he chooses to make. This alone separates Haurchefant largely from the rest of his peers, making him a bit of a rogue—to which he cares little.

He's always been a bit of an outcast when it comes to Ishgardian society. Having been born between a commoner and the Count of House Fortemps (one of the four ruling housing of Ishgard), his very existence has been a source of strain in the fabric of Ishgardian society, let alone his father's house. That strain had impacted his life rather negatively, what with Ishgardians being as they are about high and low borns. Being born of an affair, his step-mother was justifiably sore about her husband's infidelity bearing fruit, though she unjustly took it out on Haurchefant as he was growing up. Often not allowing him to attend family parties, making him stay outside the house so he can't be seen. Often reminding him of his place, and his illegitimacy without mercy. She wouldn't even acknowledge him on her death bed. Her salt ran deep.

With his father accepting him, and not abandoning him like most nobles with bastard children were known to do, it both helped and hurt Haurchefant. His father loved him unconditionally, but his step-mother abhorred him, which often lead to conflicts between them, and Haurchefant angrily fleeing the manor. The solace he found in such trying times was from his father's kindness, as well as his best friend. Francel—another elezen noble, born of House Haillenarte, six years his junior—was his first and only friend as a child. Their unlikely friendship helped soothe Haurchefant through the domestic grievances he faced, and ultimately it was through that sympathy and acceptance he was able to mold the anger and hurt into not bitterness, but kindness. This made Francel such an irreplaceable friend to Haurchefant, understandably.

Perhaps because of such a distressing childhood, Haurchefant was able to become the caring man he was. Recognizing that a man's worth did not rest upon his birth or his lineage, that he was proof enough of that. However, despite that, he does seem quick to throw himself into the line of fire, often putting his own safety below those he finds to be far more important. He did an example of this when he was but 17 years old. Francel was captured by bandits who planned to ransom him off, what with being a son of Count Haillenarte, but their plan went up in flames when Haurchefant found their little hideout.

He had seen the kidnapping, thus he stalked the group, waiting to make his move. Despite being out numbered, and being armed with nothing but a hunting knife, Haurchefant infiltrated the bandit's hideout and attacked them. He killed the two inside, but when a third showed up and attempted to shoot Francel with an arrow, Haurchefant was quick to block the arrow with his forearm. He then attacked the third bandit, detaining him. It was through that act that he became a knight proper, earning his title "Of the Silver Fuller". Haurchefant's bravery is honestly a double edged sword, for all he shows no fear to protect those he loves, he also shows no self preservation in his actions as well.

Haurchefant puts a lot into his belief towards chivalry, and that a knight lives to serve and protect. It is the way he lives his life, and what standard he holds himself to. So, he often reacts before thinking when it comes to protecting those he cares for. The importance he puts into his role might have stemmed from the abuse he received from the Countess, who was quick to remind him of his place, and that he was not one of importance, or one to become important. As such, he rather protect those he accepts as more important than himself, even if it might cost him dearly. There are several accounts of him leaping into a fight (not unlike how he did for Francel years ago), even if there's dragons or beastmen, it matters not the danger. Even a member of the Heavens' Ward (the Archbishop's elite guards) isn't enough to keep him from jumping into the fray to protect those dear to him; or even a primal. Oh how he lamented not being able to fight by the Warrior of Light's side when they faced off against Shiva...

While his need to protect is strong, and his heart rather large, as stated, it's a bit of a double edged sword for him as well. He tends to quickly put himself last when it comes to those he cares about, and so he tends to become reckless in his blind faith in following them. With his fixation on the Warrior of Light, he puts all of his faith in them, and believes them unable to do wrong. Describing them as a beacon of hope, and waxing lyrical about them to all who cares to listen (and even those who don't). As mentioned before, he jumped straight into a fight against one of the members of the Heavens' Ward, and thus directly opposing the Archbishop, because the Warrior of Light was fighting them. Which is honestly an act of treason in a respect, yet he was willing to do it for his friend, because of this faith in them, and his need to safeguard those important to him.

Despite not showing it outwardly, or ever remarking upon it, it's made pretty obvious that Haurchefant has pretty self destructive tendencies, and cares little for his own well being. Little does he want to die, or is he suicidal exactly, but he clearly shows no fear at dying if it means that someone he views as more important will live through his sacrifice. With Ishgard's pressuring martyrdom glorification, it's of little surprise that a man born between the classes, with a childhood as filled with tension and abuse as his was, would find little issue with throwing his life away for the betterment of those around him. That he would find self worth in being a shield for others. It's a sad reality, but it is one nonetheless.

However, despite all that knightly stuff, and his inner conflicts and what have you, Haurchefant is still a very happy and gentle man. Often seen as an idealist, and an hopeless romantic by his peers, he's ever inspiring, kind, and reassuring. Despite what inner turmoil he might have from his rough life, he holds himself in a kind manner. Stretching himself as much as he can to make everyone feel welcomed, and cared for. Especially those who work below him at Camp Dragonhead. During meals, he is said to sit with the servants and inquire about their day with genuine interest, where most nobles would never even think to do such a thing. He does his utmost to make everyone feel appreciated, even if their job isn't something as glorious as dragon slaying, or whatever else.

His eccentricities hardly end with his differences in Ishgardian society, however. Some go much deeper, towards more intimate avenues, or as shallow as how excitable he is at damn near everything. Haurchefant, however, is a man with quite an... appetite, and with little shame for how he displays it. When first meeting the Warrior of Light, he has them combat with some newer recruits at his camp, wanting the WoL to display for them his combat prowess. When they return, Haurchefant is more than pleased by the display, commenting on how it was arousing seeing them and his men panting together. This, of course, is more present in the japanese version, but still rings true for him as a character. He really likes to see physically formidable people at work, it's one of many things that excites him in more ways than one...

Haurchefant continues to grow an obvious fixation on the WoL, fawning over their body (whether male or female, and what race they are hardly matters either), and their accomplishments, while making somewhat uncomfortable comments about them, and more than once inviting them to stay the night with him. He is not a man shy about his attractions, to say the least. He clearly enjoys physical fortitude, having commenting on the WoL's sweaty muscles, or making idle comments about how the rigors of their tasks will shape their form. Any proof needed, however, easily comes from the topless men found doing squats in his office, not far from where he sits. Right in plain view from his desk... Though, he does actually admit he admires those with spiritual conviction (like his mother) and physical fortitude in equal measure, and that's why he likes the Warrior of Light as much as he does.

To fully understand Haurchefant's oddity though, there was a new years event where he was a guest npc, though he was incognito. It was for the year of the horse, and he ended up going down an uncomfortable path of dialogue, eluding to pony play, and asking the Warrior of Light to be his steed. Like I said, he has little shame when it comes to the things he likes, even in a sexual nature. There are even leve quests in the game that mention him commissioning leather harnesses and suchlike, and one can only imagine what he might be using those for...

To summarize: Haurchefant is a very caring, accepting individual, even if he's a huge weirdo. He's competent, self-sacrificing, and loyal to a fault. He will help those in need to the best of his ability, even if it's offering you some shelter from the cold, or perhaps some mulled wine while you warm yourself by the hearth. He's a stout ally to have, and an irreplaceable friend once he's become one. For all his eccentricities, he does try to keep them contained, knowing full well how to act dignified as suited for a man of his station... however, that isn't to say he doesn't slip sometimes, which seems to be an inevitability, instead of a possibility. Regardless, he is an amiable and unique man, with a heart far too big.

Gem: Angelite! Situated on his forehead like a horn, shaped like this. I couldn't resist making him a unicorn, I couldn't ok.

Anyways! it fits him because it's used to cause calmness and serenity, to dispel fear, anger, and to encourage forgiveness. Haurchefant has always been a beacon of protection, and is a huge guardian towards those he cares for. Willing to throw his life on the line to be sure those he cares for are safe and sound. It's also linked with guiding spirits and guardian angels, and there's hardly a term that describes Haurchefant better than a guardian angel tbh.

It's also associated with communication and expression, and Haurchefant is very talented in his means of both, honestly. He is a well spoken man, and a leader, and has calmed the anger of his brothers and sisters in arms before, and dispelled feuds between them. He is highly regarded for his sense of brotherhood and camaraderie, so angelite fits him all too well.

Power Considerations:
Cure: A moderate potency healing spell, it can't heal wounds that are very grave or fatal, but certainly can mend cuts and bruises.

Conjure Shield: Seeing as his weapon will be his sword, he will have the ability to form his shield out of magic, which will dispel after it's taken several strong hits and will have a cooldown period before being able to be summoned again. While active, it is—more or less—impenetrable unlike his actual shield.

Flash: Haurchefant can conjure a blinding flash of light that leaves those who see it blinded/disoriented for a minute or so. It does no damage, just a useful tool to get the upper hand in a fight, or a retreat.
